Try & Lilly Limited, in partnership with the Manchester Metropolitan University, offer an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to work with Senior Management to deliver a best practice model for new product development in the strategic area of uniform headwear and to implement the model by producing products. A significant part of the role will encompass the development of the functional product, including overseeing all prototyping and test procedures

Try & Lilly have been manufacturing quality headwear since 1864 and are one of the UK's leading headwear producers specialising in military uniform caps, hats and headwear for police, army, navy, air force and corporate uniform suppliers worldwide. Based at the company’s manufacturing facilities in Liverpool you will be responsible for producing a range of technical products with enhanced functionality to exploit significant opportunities in uniform headwear.

You will possess a good honours degree (1st or 2:1) or higher degree in product development, or in a management discipline with significant design, NPD and marketing content, or a technical textiles/materials technology degree with some additional management training or experience. You will have practical product development skills, preferably in the area of textile technology. You will need to be numerate with demonstrable technical/computing skills as well as possessing excellent communication and presentation skills.

Technical Manager

Technical Textiles Yorkshire c£42k plus bonus & benefits

Our client, a UK subsidiary of a c£150m turnover European Group, develops and manufactures a range of specialised technical textiles used in industrial consumable products that are integral to the finishing processes in several sectors, including metalworking and automotive refinishing. Innovation in both product and process is essential to the continuing success of this well-established business in its worldwide, competitive market, and this role provides an excellent opportunity to take the lead on technical development.

A key member of the management group, reporting to the General Manager, you will lead a small team and be responsible for new product development, material innovation and improvement, process development, and of course, day to day, hands-on troubleshooting on technical product and shop floor process issues. Building close working relationships with other departments and liaising with the Group Technology Officer, you will personally manage a range of important projects to ensure successful technical and commercial outcomes.

Highly qualified, probably in material sciences, textile chemistry or similar, you must have solid industrial experience in a process environment (perhaps textiles/fibres, resins, coatings etc), ideally involving some breadth e.g. NPD, prototyping, process development & optimisation, waste reduction, problem-solving etc. A focused, practical individual, and an effective communicator with good commercial awareness, you must have sound project management and problem-solving skills, plus a flexible and adaptable approach.
